THIS IS THE NEWS (December)

WEBSITE UPDATE:

Comics from the #30dayscomics challenge can now be read here. I didn’t make it to 30, but I managed 27, which I think is fairly respectable. I should say that taking part in this exercise has been an incredibly helpful experience for me. It has helped me try new approaches, adopt different media and play with new ways of story-telling. Thanks to Derik for kicking this all off. Aces.

WHAT’S IN THE WORKS:

Smoo # 4 was given a limited release at Thought Bubble in Leeds, in an edition of 20 copies. It is an impressionistic memoir of being a teenager in a small town. Each one came with a postcard of said town. That edition is mostly all sold out now*, but I am working on an expanded, ‘deluxe’ version. It’ll contain four extra pages, a pull-out map (plus postcard), and a new cover. I should have it done for a release sometime in the New Year.

Other things are looking up. The feeling of disenchantment that pervaded my last news post has happily mostly been funnelled into a more positive direction. I’ve got some ideas about what I’d like to work on next and how I’d like to go about doing it. We also had a fun Sunday evening with some lovely people starting off a project that they hope to have finished in the New Year. No spoilers yet in case circumstances conspire against us and either project falls at the wayside, but I’m quietly confident about both. More announcements in due course.

I still intend to take a break from shows (which is handy because there aren’t really any til May 2012 anyway) and spend more time reading and exploring things outside of comics, like having a life, drawing things not in boxes and talking to real people.

Take home message? THINGS ARE GOOD.

*If you would like a copy of the first edition of Smoo #4, Travelling Man in Leeds have a few copies on sale at £2.00 each.
