It is, of course, possible to criticise James Kochalka’s The Cute Manifesto on any number of levels. However, in so striking him down, you would make him more powerful than you could possibly imagine. This is because he is right… and this small collection of essays and musings on cartooning and the evil of craft demonstrates that it is with love and passion and being that great work is produced - not with slavish repetetive brain strokes. To put a hole in his argument is to put a hole in him is to miss the point is to put a whole in your own foot. Comics, yay!
